Background Under the Facility from the Regional Teachers Initiative for Africa (RTIA) funded by the European Union, this technical assistance assignment supports Tanzania’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) in implementing its ongoing education reform. The initiative focuses on enhancing students’ transition from primary to lower secondary education, particularly into vocational streams. Objectives & Scope of Work Working as part of a two-person team alongside a national expert, the international expert will: - Build primary teachers’ capacity to provide clear guidance to students regarding lower secondary education options. - Strengthen head teachers’ capacity to inform parents and the broader school community about vocational pathways. - Address gender biases and challenge stereotypes surrounding vocational education to promote inclusive career guidance. Key Deliverables - Study Report on primary teachers’ and head teachers’ perceptions regarding vocational education. - Career Guidance Guidelines for primary school teachers. - Career Guidance Guidelines for primary school head teachers. - Guidelines Dissemination Plan for primary schools. Required qualifications & profile - Education: Advanced degree in Education or relevant social sciences, specializing in teacher capacity building. - General Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in basic education, with a proven track record of developing teacher training/capacity-building programs. Specific Expertise: - Demonstrated expertise in student career guidance, vocational education/TVET systems, and school-to-work transitions. - Solid track record in integrating gender considerations and addressing gender stereotypes in education. - Strong skills in participatory workshop facilitation and conducting field studies. - Familiarity with the education context in Tanzania or Sub-Saharan Africa is an advantage. Languages : Full professional proficiency in English (spoken and written); knowledge of Swahili is an asset.
